What is Gnawa?
Gnawa is a sacred music and spiritual practice originating among sub-Saharan African communities brought to Morocco. It blends Islamic Sufi elements with ancient African healing traditions — characterized by the guembri (three-string bass lute), qraqeb (iron castanets), and trance-inducing repetitive rhythms.
